ALL IN ALL, IS ALL WE ARE "Music is expressing real life. It is the language of the soul." -Lorenz Arquero Live gigs were prohibited. Concerts were canceled. People were told to stay indoors. Bars and venues went silent. The music industry has been hit hard by the pandemic with live performances as its biggest casualty. Against the backdrop of a sad pandemic, The Gigi Vibes Band provided solace, entertainment, and good vibes for Filipinos. The band's live streams struck a chord with Pinoys abroad and have become a staple for international music reaction videos. We sang along, cried, and laughed with the band as they dished out songs that composed the soundtrack of our lives. Gigi Vibes started out as session musicians for Serenata Strings for the late Lorenzo "Lorenz" Orate Aquereo and his son LA Arquero. The band had its roots in contemporary upbeat jazz and alternative music, including bossa nova, samba, and standard jazz. Gigi De Lana also trained performing jazz standards, bossa nova, and pop music under Sir Lorenz in 2010. Romeo Marquez also had a ten-year stint as a session drummer the same time Jon Cruz was honing his keyboard skills for Serenata Strings. Erwin Lacsa of Ryan Cayabyab Singers formed Serenata's New Perspective in 2015 with LA Arquero, the latter as its guitarist and violinist. Chuck Joson (Musical Director), and Chuck Menor (Drummer) were the other members of this band. Serenata Strings lost its leader of the band after Sir Lorenz Arquero's untimely passing in 2016.
The unfortunate event served as a catalyst for changes in the band. Gigi De Lana started to perform with Serenata's New Perspective as the lead singer. In that same year. Jake Manalo auditioned as a band member. The next year saw more changes, as Chuck Joson later left the band for his current work as an arranger for a TV network. Chuck Menor also decided to pursue a different musical direction that same year and was replaced by Romeo Marquez. Subsequently, Jon Cruz joined the band as its pianist and musical director. This was also the year the band reached a milestone as it started live streaming on social media platforms. The live music industry shut down due to COVID-19 in 2020. Gigs were canceled, tours and events were called off, venues were forced to close. As midyear approached, Erwin via Tritone Studios decided to renew and refocus on streaming and content creation on multiple platforms. The band started streaming as GG Vibes in July 2020. Sadly, quarantine restrictions prevented other band members from joining the show on a regular basis. To continue the streams, Gigi relied on instrumental tracks. Quarantine restrictions were eventually relaxed enabling Jon Cruz to return to the live stream in August of 2020. Romeo Marquez followed suit in November of 2020. As 2021 kick-started, it was all together now for GG Vibes. Jake Manalo and LA Arquero returned on set in January 2021, and the band name Gigi Vibes was officially launched in February 2021. 2 Silver Play Buttons. 1 Gold Play Button. Multiple Trending Videos.
